One can travel anywhere and find the same places and images we thought we left behind. This anesthetized way of looking prevents one from seeing the importance of the natural world – its randomness, uniqueness, ambiguity, and complexity. My paintings can simply be of how a river or landform looks, but it often represents something other than or more than, it’s visual appearance – a metaphor for personal, environmental issues, or the value of current culture.
